BLOOMFIELD The construction of U.S. 64 through a commercial corridor in Bloomfield is raising anxieties as the project prepares to switch to the north side of the highway.
More than 30 business and civic leaders attended a meeting Thursday night to discuss what can be done to mitigate the damage to businesses. The $14 million project to widen U.S. 64 also known as Bloomfield Highway and Broadway Avenue to six lanes is hurting businesses along the two-mile corridor under construction. Chihuahua Tortilla Factory is on the verge of shutting down, owner Fernando Reyes said. Patrick Burt, who works at the Sonic Drive-In at 1332 W. Broadway Ave., said the project is costing jobs. ”We’re going to lose a lot of employees because of this,” he said.
